DeWitt’s main focus in the lab is the immunotoxicological and developmental immunotoxicological effects of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) of concern in North Carolina and across the globe.

The DeWitt Lab has received funding from the North Carolina Policy Collaboratory to perform work to support the PFAS Testing Network, a network of six institutions funded by the N.C. General Assembly to understand the extent of PFAS distribution across the state, including evaluation of PFAS in different environmental media and their health effects. The DeWitt Lab will focus on the immunotoxicity of a select group of PFAS of high concern in the state of N.C.

The lab has also received award notification from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to study the developmental immunotoxicity of a suite of PFAS. The lead primary investigator is Dr. Robert Tanguay from Oregon State University and the project is a multi-PI, multi-institution collaboration
