Sleep disturbances are highly prevalent among individuals with autism spectrum disorder and can significantly affect behavior, learning, and family functioning. Insomnia, night wakings, circadian rhythm differences, and sleep-related anxiety frequently complicate clinical care. Assessment of sleep problems in autism requires consideration of biological, behavioral, and environmental contributors, as well as caregiver implementation of treatment strategies. This CME/CE activity reviews common sleep challenges in autism and examines evidence-based behavioral and pharmacologic approaches to management. The activity is designed to support clinician knowledge and clinical decision-making related to sleep assessment and individualized care planning.

This activity is jointly provided by Haymarket Medical Education and The Autism Research Institute.
